Getting to know… our Wellington Principal Advisor, Kathy Longson

Kathy rejoined the Simply Privacy team in 2020, having previously spent several years consulting for us. She has a background in both privacy and the wider information management arenas, with stints as an Investigator at both the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and Office of the Ombudsman. She also held roles at Archives New Zealand, including as a Senior Advisor in the Digital Sustainability Programme.

Kathy has a keen interest in privacy and digital information management issues, and familiarity with IT development projects, change management processes and business analysis. Her philosophy is that listening and communication are the first steps in getting privacy right. Kathy holds an LLB and BA from Victoria University of Wellington.

When she’s not keeping busy with privacy projects, you can find Kathy in the East Harbour regional park (enjoying the Wellington rain) with her dog, or baking something chocolatey. Kathy is always keen to discuss privacy issues and enjoys catching up over a coffee in one of the Capital’s cafes.
